I was walking around my backyard and I took this picture of a dragonfly. As I was reviewing this picture, I noticed the battered wings, yet the dragonfly could still fly. I begin to think about my journey of healing from childhood sexual abuse. I have felt battered by the trauma, panic attacks, anxiety, PTSD, yet I can still fly. It has taken a lot of hard work, counseling and support from others to take my journey of healing. We all have felt like our wings have been battered, but our faith, encouraging words from others and hard work, we stay the course and keep flying. Never give up and remember we not only can survive, we can thrive. Fight through the fear that holds you back from going for your dreams. Picture life differently and make it a reality.
I will close with a recent review of my new book on my journey of healing, raising a family and building a business while healing.
“Dear Dave,
I finished reading Fighting Through the Fear and all I can say is Wow! Your book is a treasure and such an amazing meld of heartfelt stories. Of course, the story of your sexual abuse and it’s lifelong impact, but it’s also a story of your triumph in overcoming. I also appreciated that it was the story of your upbringing, the love story that is you and Karla (she is so amazing), and a story about tackling obstacles with grace and humility with God at the center. It’s also an insightful book on succeeding in business and how to be a great leader. I have no doubt that there will be life lessons for anyone who reads it. I feel incredibly honored that I have had the privilege of getting to know you so personally through your participation in Stewards, your blog, and now your book. You are truly an inspiration.”
