History

The Journey Begins

Working 80s.jpg

In 1978, David graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in psychology and a dream of one day becoming an architect. In 1981, David Moody took his first step toward what he believed would be his lifelong dream—graduating from architectural school and starting his career as an architect. Fresh from earning his five-year professional degree at Howard University, he secured a position at Bechtel Construction, where he was stationed as a staff architect in the nuclear power division. Then one day his boss asked for an architect to volunteer to go to a nuclear power plant construction project. Following his father's advice to go wherever the job required relocation, David raised his hand and volunteered. At the jobsite, he realized construction was his calling. The pivot was made from architecture to construction.

The future looked promising as David began building his career in architecture and construction. In 1983, David took his new bride and moved to Atlanta to work for a small mechanical constructor. However, a few months after taking this job, fate had other plans. Just as he was settling into his professional path, David received the devastating news that the company was closing its doors—leaving him suddenly unemployed. The next four years were stressful as he worked for small general contractors.

Facing this unexpected challenge with a newborn at home and mounting bills, David stood at a pivotal crossroads. Rather than seeking another employer, he made a decision that would fundamentally alter the trajectory of his life: he would bet on himself. With determination and vision, David took the bold step of founding his own company, beginning an entrepreneurial journey that would test his resolve and ultimately forge his legacy.

Building A Legacy

C.D. Moody Construction emerged in 1988 from humble beginnings—a three-man operation with a single project at Underground Atlanta. What started as a necessary pivot in the face of uncertainty has transformed into a commanding presence in the commercial construction industry.

Under David's visionary leadership, the company has left its mark on iconic landmarks across the region. The portfolio of high-profile projects includes the revolutionary Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the expansive Hartsfield-Jackson International Terminal, and the culturally significant Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at Morehouse College.

David's journey wasn't without challenges. Through shrewd financial acumen and strategically cultivated partnerships, he successfully navigated his company through volatile economic cycles and negotiated major contracts with Fortune 500 companies, demonstrating remarkable resilience and business savvy.

Now in his sixties, David has transitioned into a new phase of his career—sharing the wisdom gained from decades of entrepreneurial experience. He offers invaluable insights to those courageous enough to take their own leap of faith and pursue their dreams, providing not just inspiration but practical guidance for the next generation of builders and business leaders.
